Freiburg and the French: From Vauban to Vauban.
The people of Freiburg and the French were not always peaceful neighbors. Freiburg was at the crossroads of the Holy Roman Empire and France. During the Baroque period, the Freiburg Fortress was built by the then star architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. We follow the traces of the disappeared fortifications on Schlossberg hill. Today the name Vauban is synonymous with urban life of the future. The Vauban neighborhood represents Freiburg's Green City image. A tour of Quartier Vauban shows opportunities and provides valuable processes of reasoning.
